Subject: micronutrient deficiencies and GM foods
I have been asked to find a review/references of the root causes of micronutrient deficiencies, in particular beta carotene and iron, in less developed countries.
The information is to be used for a report on the approriateness and necessity of further developing nutritionally enhanced genetically modified foods (rice, food oils) in order to reduce the prevalence of malnutrition. Issues such as successes/failures of food fortification, cultural preferences, new crop introductions may need to be looked at.
I realise that this is a pretty broad remit but if anyone knows of a good overview I'd be interested to hear of it.
Thanks for any help you may give.
