....we are in the process of developing a methodology for the preparation of Urban Food Security and Nutrition Profiles. An initial literature review was carried out on material in Mozambique at the end of last year. In February 1998 we are planning a technical workshop to discuss the proposed methodology, and any particular problems. We would like your assistance with two matters:

a. relevant international literature in the area of urban food and nutritional security, and its rapid/ qualitative assessment;

b. the identification of possible resource persons for the workshop who have experience in one or more of the following areas:

- Rapid appraisal techniques in urban areas

- Qualitative urban food security and nutrition assessment

- Urban coping strategies

- Urban income generating activities (formal/informal)

- Urban markets

- Urban/rural relationships

Your assistance with this is appreciated. Regards Margaret.

Regarding urban agriculture, food, and jobs a resource person is Jac Smith. President, The Urban Agriculture Network, Washington, Fax: (202) 986-6732 Tel: (202) 483-8130 (he is involved in projects/proposals in West Africa, Cote d'Ivoire in particular). Other distant resources would be Trudy Harpman (urban health) and Sarah Atkinson (nutrition) from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medecine, UK.
